BEAUTIFUL..... I often wonder why this guy does not get more attention.

Pretty pale golden with green hint, still some carbonation. Soft nose of light flowers, white peach, hint of honey, on palate, the same with the addition of a lemon rind and flinty minerality. There is a solid feel to the wine which has a very dense flavor profile and a gripping acidity. SO NICE.......

He gets attention from those who really follow German wines but I think the production and distribution is quite limited. I would love to try one again. (The winemaker is originally from Switzerland.)

Engineer,
Do you check out Robin Garrs' Wine Lovers' Discussion Group occasionally? Rahsaan posted a long tasting note about a trip to the Mosel and mentions tasting with Vollenweider. http://www.wineloverspage.com/forum/village/viewtopic.php?t=8054

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I remember again why I like this producer.

Wine has setteled down a bit. Colour is pale yellow green, crystal clear. On the nose, white peach, nectarine, floral, some citrus rind. On the palate, smooth, glassy elegant, crisp, focused with loads of grapefruit rind, light honey, minerality at the end, and sharp acidity. Long persistence. Just lovely.

This bottle did not even make it to dinner...

Lovely, maybe just starting to shut down a bit but otherwise no change in notes. I had to change glasses. I had always used the older style Riedel's for riesligs. I just purchased two new ones with have a shorter stem (grape series?? from William Sonoma), but they have the same outward bowing lip like the sommelier Burgundy. The wine was presented with greater immediacy. Accurate but it appeared very rushed for me. I had to switch back to the old glasses....

Well, I finally did it! Opened one of the wines Engineer procured for me--the 2005. 8.5% alcohol Frothy on first pouring and quite petillant for a time after the froth disappeared. More gold than straw colored. Notes of stone fruit, lemon and possibly orange blossom. Sweet without being cloying. An easy and delightful sipper. Yum.

It's been a few years and yet this wine seems to have just stood there patiently, not changing much. Perhaps just a bit more closed but still a vibrant bottle. Everytime I have one of his wines, I'm just stunned at the way this juice is put together. It is just fab. No change in notes but perhaps just closing down a touch.
