Rated 97 – Disgorged in November 2017, the 2007 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé continues to show brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with an attractive bouquet that mingles notes of red berries, cherries and apple with nuances of cut flowers, fresh bread and spices, without the riper, tropical top notes found in the 2008. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny textured and multidimensional, with extraordinary concentration, an incisive spine of acidity and a long, chalky finish. Charles Philipponnat adds that he used to think rosé aged faster, but he has come to believe that red wine phenolics “frame” the wine and in fact increase its potential longevity. Since Clos des Goisses is already arguably Champagne’s longest-lived wine, who knows how far the 2007 will go.
