Rated 95 – Blended from the ripe 1989, the middle vintage in one of Champagne’s great trilogies (1988-1990), this is a star in the line-up of Mis en Cave vintages. I first tasted it with Daniel Thibault at the winery in January 2000 and it has always impressed. Rich and powerful, it’s a wine of substance with a textured, chewy mouthfeel, plus an orange peel zestiness that keeps it alive. Tasted at the same time in magnum also, this format still boasts an astonishing freshness for a 30-year old non-vintage Champagne. Base wine: 1989; Disgorged: 1993; Dosage: 11g/L; 29% reserve wine.
