This is the most eastern of Germany’s wine-growing regions. Most of the vineyards found in this region are located in a 30 mile stretch on the hilly slopes surrounding the Elbe River from Pillnitz to Dresden, Radebeul and Meissen. Wines are made from Müller-Thurgau, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Traminer grapes. The wines tend to be dry with a refreshing fruity acidity. “Elbtal-Sekt”, a sparkling wine, is one of the specialties of this region.
