The Finger Lake region is New York State’s largest wine producing area with over 10,000 acres of vineyard, nearly 50 wineries, and about 85% of the total state-wide wine production. Carved out by Ice Age glaciers a million years ago, the magnificent lakes provide ideal climatic conditions for growing premium wine grapes. The climate is similar to that of the Champagne region of France, helping to explain why the Finger Lakes is famous for its superb sparkling wines and crisp, elegant white table wines.
