The rich history of winemaking and grape growing in the Paso Robles viticultural area began in 1797 at Mission San Miguel Archangel and continuing to this day. Vineyards and wineries dot the oak-lined hills inviting a leisurely drive along uncrowded roads in an area warmed by the sun and cooled by the afternoon Salinas River breezes.
Today there are more than 25 wineries and 80 vineyards growing premium winegrapes on rolling hills that vary from 700 to 1900 feet in elevation. Together they are the wine industry in the Paso Robles wine region.
