A French term for wine and food fraternities. Some of these groups can trace their origins back to ancient “guilds”, examples being the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (“Brotherhood of Gentlemen of the Tasting Cup, Burgundy) and the Confrerie de la Chaines des Rotisseurs (Fraternity of the Turners of the Roasting Spit).
