The time in the spring when the vines show their first signs of growth following their winter dormancy is the bud break. This is a critical time in the life of a vintage, due in particular to the possibilities of a late-spring killing frost which would reduce the harvest. Bud break is a particularly exciting time in the vineyard as it contains all of the promises of greatness with the uncertainty of what the rest of the year will bring!
