Received this today as a B-day gift from a friend at work. He suggested saving it for my actual B-day, 5/4. Sandi and are going to pop it then. The back label contains no information as to its blend. Any info would be appreciated. I think she plans on cooking up a red sauce dish like eggplant parm. I've never tasted this wine so I have no idea if that dish is compatible. Basket of vino also includes a 2000 Camigliano Rosso di Montalcino. Again, no juice info. Thanks.

We need to know who the producer is of your Brunello Riserva. I would think most of the better quality Brunello Riserva's from the 97' vintage are still way to young to drink yet. Let us know and we can better advise you whether to save it or if it can be opened without killing a great wine before it's time. I would think the Camigliano Rosso may be the better candidate to consider opening for now

Drink the Rosso for your birthday. Save the Brunello until 2012. Both are made from an extra special clone of sangiovese that grows in Montalcino. The Rosso is made in a more approachable method. A fully mature Brunello (15 years) is one of life's great experiances. Give the Rosso some air before consuming (about an hour), and it should be fine.
