Taking a trip to San Fran for the wine bloggers conference. Wanted to drop into some retail stores in San Fran to scope things out. Anyone have a favorite place there: unsnobby, great/unusual selection, preferably with a wine bar?

The real deal in the Marina district is the California Wine Merchant who has opened a wine bar in the last few years. Gregg O'Flynn is a friend and can be reached at 415 567 0646. WW. Another favorite in the area is Plumpjack but the last I checked they were closed for remodling. (Yeppo this is the same Plumpjack that owns the great Napa jernt) Nice to have a Gramps who was one of the richest men in the world. Their restaurant offers the lowest pricest on wines I've ever encountered and their retail wine shop may have added a wine bar since last I be there. # is 415 563 4755. WW

If that Plumpjack shop is closed, you can try the other one. It's at 4011 24th in the Noe Valley district. It used to be called Caruso's until Steve Kerr sold it and came back east to be the GM in the shop I work at. Also, if you are a sake fan, check out True Sake at 560 Hayes.

Don't think the Plumpjack wine shop closed, just the restaurant. Check by phone and see or maybe you can go online and get the info. Never thot of that. Being of dated comunicative skills my 1st thot is the telly. You young whioppersnapdoodles use the internet. WW
