Jed Steele was at our shop for a tasting of Steeles and Shooting Stars yesterday and told me that his new Shooting Star Mendocino was actually some leftover, declassified Pacini Vineyard stuff that he didn't need for his SV Steele bottling. It's DAZZLING stuff, even at its young age and should improve markedly with time. The Steele Pacini was also great, if a little lighter than usual. His Steele Cab Franc was mellow and stately and his Pinot - not that I'm any judge - was KILLER. The whites were also meaty and substantial, especially the WA state Aligote. But the Shooting Star Zin, Jeez, BUY IT. At about $11, it a real...um..Steal.
