Cruising a local upscale market, I ran across a shelf talker proclaiming the NV Malvira', Birbét to be the perfect breakfast/brunch wine. If anyone's got the guts to recommend wine for breakfast, I'm going to give it a shot. At $9/375, it's not exactly cheap, but I've never had a wine like this before. It's made from the Brachetto grape in Piedmont, and the fermentation is stopped when the wine is low alcohol (6.5%), a bit fizzy, and still sweet. Intense aromas of strawberries and blueberries, with lots of sweet, fresh floral
notes. Sweet strawberry fruit in the mouth, with floral, and delicate spice flavors. It's a sweet, simple wine, akin to a Moscato d'Asti, but made with a red grape. A perfect substitute for your morning juice, and a nice accompaniment to homemade breakfast sandwiches.

Eno, we could sell thrice as much Brachetto as we can get! Is that the correct name or is it Malabaia de Canale or something like that? And in any case, who is the importer and what is their phone #?????????????????????

Coming from N'Awlins, I son't shy away from "breakfast drinks", Brandy Milk Punch anyone? roberto

Sorry, Roberto, I save all my empty half bottles and the label is already in the trash. The front label was definitely Malvira and Birbet.

Castello Banfi also makes a Brachetto that is pretty widely available. The funny part is that Brachetto is now a DOCG.
