N/V Oak Leaf Vineyards, California, Shiraz ($2.97 Walmart). Alcohol level: 13%. This is Wally World's answer to Two Buck Chuck, made by The Wine Group.

It is pleasant enough with a hint of spice and pepper amongst the integrated fruit. Matched with Baked Gnocchi with Roasted Garlic Chicken Sausages and salad.

Wednesday night is pasta night! Formerly known as Prince Spaghetti night.

When I was in San Diego a couple of weeks ago I stopped in Trader Js to pickup some cheese and crackers to take out to Shelter Island and have with a bottle of wine I'd brought. Don't remember the name but they had a 3.99 bottle of Pinot that the girl working said was delicious. For 4 bucks I bought a bottle and opened it 1st. To call it Pinot is probably the closest thing Trader Joes has ever done to outright fraud. After the 1st sip I opened my bottle of 02 Dehlinger Goldridge, had a marvelous time watching the boats come and go and left the bottle corked hoping a nice deserving wino mite find some satisfaction in it. Read an article this morning that Fred Franzia, maker of 2 buck chuck wants to make 10,000,000 cases of that stuff. Someone needs to call the Wine Police on him...

Fred's making what many people want. Can't blame him for filling a niche.
