I am trying to plan a romantic evening for my sig other. His fav dish is chicken fettuccine and although i have selected the menu i am at a loss when it comes to picking out the wine. Your suggestions are welcomed.

Is it an alfredo sauce?

If it is or another white sauce, try one of the Three Italian Vs in this order: Venmentino, Verdicchio, or Vernaccia.

Our preference is Tommasi Pinot Grigio, about $10. Serve well-chilled.

Sorry i took so long to reply and yes the sauce is alfredo- can i still go with the last suggestion or do i need something different?

All the Pinot Grigio's I've had are 180 degrees from a cream sauce in flavor. They've been very crisp, sharp wines that might contrast just a bit too much. If the Tommasi is a fruitier, less crisp style, that would be a good thing, though I'm not sure it is.

Agree in general on a PG being too crisp for alfredo. But the Tommasi's acid is muted, allowing it to pair nicely with fetucini in a cream sauce. Have found that it's even better with a year or two of bottle age.

Wellll, OK. I'll give it a try and maybe I'll find a new wine to go with all the cream based dishes I make, except that Judy thinks it's time to back off on those for awhile and lose a few waist sizes.
