Russian River Valley. Paid $17 for it at Whole Foods, which had it marked down about $14. Frankly, I was expecting a bit more from this, and I don't know what to think about it. Good color, a bit darker than ruby, and nice red fruit nose. Flavors on the entry of cherry and licorice, but then the thing just goes into a vortex and sucks all flavors away before the short, tart finish. Some heat present, though 14.6% alc. is not all that high nowadays with Cali Zin. Perhaps bottle variation? I trust this wine guy, so I'm not worried about provinance. Oh well. Anyone have any experience with this winery?
