I heard this yesterday in our shop. A sales rep told us Ravenswood was just sold to Constellation (Canandaigua Wine Company) for about $150M. They're supposed to be managed under Franciscan Estates.

Holy acquisitions, Batman!!! All this M&A activity is definitely getting out of hand.

- Innkeeper - 04-11-2001

KC, you should have added this to the Little Ole Winemaker thread under Rants & Raves. The list just keeps getting longer & longer.

Well Ravenswood used to be pretty good. Wonder what is going to happen now?

What a shame.

- mrdutton - 04-17-2001

What a relief! It seems that they don't own Sutter Home and Montevina.

Only one of their products that I can ever remember buying is Taylor New York State Wine. And frankly, I think I was buying it before Canandaigua Wine Company bought them out.

As for the rest of that list, I can't recall ever buying any one of those labels except one. The exception is Ravenswood.

- chittychattykathy - 04-18-2001

(You mean to tell us that you've never had a Corona?)

- winecollector - 04-18-2001

Wow! That's quite a list there Bucko.... I can't speak for the wine list, but as for the beers, St. Pauli Girl Dark, and Negro Modelo, last I had them they seemed intact, and still worthy of purchasing. Any stock options available in Constellation/Canandaigua?

- Bucko - 04-18-2001

Don't know..... I still hoping my Microsoft will recover.....

Bucko

- Drew - 04-18-2001

Double Diamond is a very tasty English brew also.

- Thomas - 04-18-2001

I recently bought (and sold at the shop) Columbia Winery 1998 Merlot--a nice product; not classic Merlot but with smoky, spicy characters I swear must have come from Syrah blended in. After reading Bucko's list I have come to dislike the wine; am I a hypocrite??? You bet your life I am.

I have something against BIGNESS in wine production and distribution--must be my old left-wing trying to take flight.

Au contraire Foodie, that's your small businessman's conservative, RIGHT wing flutterin'...and rightfully so. cp

CCK - Guilty as charged! Yes I've drunk plenty of the listed beers from Mexico and other locales. I wasn't thinking of beer when I posted my remarks............
