2000 Marchetti, Zinfandel, California, $33. This wine is for those who like the very jammy style of Zinfandel. Packed with red fruit jam, the acidity holds the wine together. 89/87.

2000 Robert Mondavi, Zinfandel, Napa Valley, California, $21. This is pretty classic Zinfandel, just exuding with blackberries, black cherries and raspberries. The tannins are well under control and the whole package is supported by balanced acidity and French oak nuances. 89/89.

Sounds great but what's with the big prices on these zins?

$21 is pretty average these days.

You wouldn't find one European to pay that much for a wine from France or Germany or Spain. I don't know why Americans are dumb enough to pay so much for wines grown in our own country. I think it is just pathetic. When I was in Germany, I could buy a Bernkastler Doktor for 17.50.

America is the only wine PRODUCING country in the world where the general populace has been deluded into thinking wine is ART and not GROCERIES. If you live in Norway or Trinidad, maybe that is the case but it should not be so here.

And, I've got to say, we manage to finde plenty of nice zins to sell for WAY under $20....

From one bottom feeder to another...thank you Roberto!

I loved traveling thru Alsace. You go into a cafe, order tart flambe and Gewurztraminer and they bring out a pitcher of Gewurzt, very tasty to boot, $6, yep, $6 in a cafe. What a delightful experience!! I love the tart flambe as well........

When I was in the Netherlands we bought 4 bottles of Rose', which is the hot wine there now, and they were 5 euros a piece. Show me one drinkable wine in the states for 5 euros a bottle. Europeans cringed in Germany when I told them how much I pay for wine here. The only thing you can afford to do rather inexpensively in Europe is to become a raging alcoholic. Everything else is relatively expensive.

Todd, we are selling truckloads of a nice Cabernet called Crow Canyon for $4.99. See IK's reviews under the Cab section.
