1997 DeRose, Zinfandel, Cienega Valley, $20, 1,300 cases. This is a big boy. Rich black fruit and chocolate aromas, intense, jammy, briary fruit, chocolate, moderate tannins and 15.7% alcohol. The wine does not seem hot at this point and has a huge, fruity finish. Good value.

WS is full of ...... well, you know. The wine has calmed down and is lovely, more so in a few months. I give their ratings zero credibility anymore. They lost me a long time ago. I'll be interested to get a third opinion from WW. Someone go out to the gutter and kick him, already.....

Hah! 100 Year old vines; just as we suspected. The Pinot St George was probably planted at the same time.

- winoweenie - 10-22-2000

Well Bucko and whom-so-ever awakened me from my reverie. I thought I`d posted on this wine before in the zin thread but must have passed-out whilst settin` up. If you look at my reply on the IK Pinot-St it`s obvious I thot the post had been made. I first tried this at my local wine shop 3 months ago. Here`s last nites notes. A big, brawney briary zin that`s remonisant of the Lytton Srpings fruit bombs of the late 70`s. Literally tons of Huckle, Black, Rasp, and Straw with any other Berry you mite conjure up wailin` on your tongue. The heat has completely subsided leaving a powerful entry, solid center and a long finish. It`s easy to tell this baby`s from OLD vines as the depth and character stand out like a 38-D cup. Bucko, I`m with you on the Speculator. The only syndicated columnist I pay one iota of attention to is John Tilson. Any-hoos` , do you think WS will send us any left-overs at a discount? winoweenie

- Bucko - 10-22-2000

IK, you are wrong my friend. The PSG vines are not 100 years old -- they are 115 years old! Amaqzing something is still left standing that long.

Yeah--------------- just look at Bucko!!

- Thomas - 10-22-2000

Beat me to it again, Dutton!

Anyhoos--to coin the phrase of someone on this board--as regards the Expectorant ratings: I can sell more wine by purposely going against their recommendations.

- Bucko - 10-22-2000

Hey, I have them wimpy vines beat hands down. So does my great-grandad.... good genes.
