There has not been a lot written here about Stonehedge in the last four or five years. We were over on the other side of the bay today, and paid our last visit to the Blue Hill Wine Store. Picked up a Dr. K. Frank Cabernet Franc that they had ordered for us, two more '99 Chateau du Mages, and----

2001 Stonehedge, California, Zinfandel ($8). Alcohol level 14.5%; yikes! Gives you blackberries, black cherries and spice on the nose and upfront. More juicy fruit, spicy complexity, smooth tannin and low heat across the palate, and a delightful finish. Very nice wine and an excellent value.

Matched it with curried lamb over pilaf and salad in B.C. dressing. It went perfectly with the wine.

This was the very last of the lamb that was born in the spring of '04.
