First zin that I’ve tried from grgich hills. The wine was a little lighter in color like a pinot noir. Fresh, clean, fruity in a gamay way with strawberry, cherry, and restrained oak adding a depeth to the wine but only a bit. Decent acidity and certainly not like the other types of heavier Zinfandels that I have had. Nicely done and worth the try if just to see the stylistic differences. $30 so not a great value.

Let me amend my earlier post. You've been a VERY,VERY busy bee. WW

I like some of the lighter-style Zins from Jed Steele such as the Catfish Zin and the Pacini Ridge (Mendocino). I am planning to open 2-3 Zins this week and next including one of the Steele Pacini Zins and a Four Vines Zin from Sonoma (I've tasted the Four Vines from Amador previously).

Top notch wine IMHO. My note:

2004 Grgich Hills, Zinfandel, Napa Valley, California, $30, 5,580 cases. This one is very dense in color, with strawberry preserves, berries and new leather opening on the nose. Full and elegant, the fruit flavors explode in the mouth. The finish is very persistent and laced with cracked black pepper; 91/91.
