Another WOW!!!!Thought I'd try the Merlot since the Cab was soooo good. It's all that and a bag of chips. Dark ruby/purple not opaque. This wine is all about dark plum, cherry and chocolate. Just a beautifully made, fruit forward style merlot with a very long finish, which seems to be the calling card of McManis. It's completely in balance with acidity and soft tannins. Another case buy for me. 14%Alc/vol. $8 by the case.

FYI Dan Berger has named Jeff Runquist, the winemaker at McManis, as winemaker of the year for 2003. Jeff also makes an upscale wine under his own "R" label.
