I rarely drink Merlot except in a blend but I did sample this at a free wine tasting at Grapes and Hops Saturday. The apellation alone, Horse Heaven Hill, reminds me of Prosser and the offline in Washington. This was a fairly simple wine (2005 vintage?--I didn't take notes) but easy going and I bought a bottle to share at an informal church potluck or such. At about $14 I thought it would be decent QPR (may be even less at the grocery store.) I also sampled a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. I picked up a bottle of Honig Sauvignon Blanc (2006). I have liked their S.B. in the past but thought it would be about $20-$21. When I saw the price tag was about $25 I had second thoughts but went ahead with the purchase. I may take both wines to a Cursillo potluck this Friday.
