I am looking for a smooth Merlot, or other red wine. Very little acidity and very gentle on the palate. The wine I buy is probably too inexpensive, but I am willing to spend a little more. (under $25) Any suggestions would be great.

Several on the board enjoy Bogle Merlot which is fruity and very affordable (often $10 or less). I also like Falesco Umbria Merlot from Italy and IK likes Collio Merlot (an Italian regional wine not as widely available as the Falesco brand). Beyond that, merlot is sometimes better appreciated in a blend rather than on its own. (I also liked the Irvine Merlot from Australia which is a bit more expensive.)

I forgot to welcome you to the board. We enjoy hearing from newcomers. Other choices besides merlot for mild red wines include lambrusco, and beaujolais. You might enjoy a beaujolais cru such as Fleurie or Moulin a Vent (a knowledgeable wine retailer can help).

although i think the best bargain in merlot by far is the 1998 Columbia Crest Grand Estates at $10-11 a bottle, that wine might be a little "too big" for your tastes. For very fruit-forward easy sipping merlots, i can heartily recommend Clos du Bois, whose merlot typically goes for around $16-17 a bottle. good luck!

I am as new on this subjet that I feel really strange writing about it but I found out that the Merlot's wine produced in Chile are quite interesting, I really like the Casillero del Diablo and TRIO - both from Concha y Toro wineries.

Hi OhopieB and welcome to the board. You didn't list your origin but all of the suggestions above are excellent. You could gain some more insight by clicking the merlot thread, go back 100 days and read the posts. Will give you some info. WW
