Five TN’s from a fortnightly tasting selection at my favourite winestore. (I tried around nine wines, but some of my TN’s were lost to posterity the last time I cleaned out my wallet. I HAVE to type these up earlier nevet time...)

2004 Tuki Tuki Road Chardonnay: The bottle notes mentioned “lots” of oak, but it sure didn’t feel like it. (I originally thought it might be an unoaked chard at the first sip.) Smooth and peachy, nice clean aftertaste. Very chuggable... and good value for money, if I remember correctly.

2003 Corbans Cottage Block Sauvignon Blanc. HUGE, tangy SB. Grassy, spicey, long and full. Big Tick of Approval from me. Great stuuf.

2004 Triplebank Pinot Gris: Pear drop nose, light-ish and slightly creamy texture. slightly sweet finish. Not bad, but might be a better food wine for me.

2004 Saints Sauvignon Blanc: Massively pungent nose. (My notes contain one word, underlined... “Armpit”) Very acidic on the back palate, very grassy, although it lacked a little bit of length on the finish for me. Thumbs in the middle.

2004 Triplebank Pinot Noir: A light-style PN, very similar to the 2004 Shingle Peak PN I’ve been tasting and selling all summer. Good length, drying finsh, nice easy-drinking fruit flavours. (cherries predominatley, and rasberries according to the bottle notes.) A good pizza-pasta wine.

2003 Huntaway Reserve Cabernet/Merlot: Really nice, inviting nose. My palate was a shade disappointed, however. Couldn’t put my finger on it, but felt a little lacking. It was the last of the nine, so Over-anticipation Syndrome, possibly?

Skeeter,

We just got some Babich Merlot in the shop. Any experience with this?

Not specifically with the Merlot KC, but I've had some good times with the Babich Quartet, thier Bordeaux-style blend. There's aTN for it in one of my Assortages, probably a year or so back..
