1998 Saxenburg, Cabernet Sauvignon, SA ($14.99 SHWC). Another wonderful approachable $15 cab from south of the Equator. Hits you square in the puss with strong black current aromas that carry to the front of one's mouth. Very nice varietal complexity accompanied by a little smoke and smooth tannin across the palate, and ending with a lingering finish. That touch of smoke I find slightly bothersome in cabs from both South Africa and South America. It was not as pronounced as usual this time, and would not stop me from buying more.

Matched nicely with a grillpanned porterhouse steak, baguette, and salad with blue cheese dressing. Can just make out the top of the outdoor grill sticking out of the snow.

I've made sure the path to the grill has been kept open all winter. Of course, it's on the deck only about five feet from the door, but it's clear.
