1999 Reilly's Watervale, Riesling, Clare Valley ($9.99 SHWC). In the Feb/Mar '03 edition of "The Wine News" there was an excellent article on dry riesling. Both Austria and Australia (and to some extent the Finger Lakes) got high marks. Did not know before that most riesling from Oz is dry. Ordered a selection of them from SHWC ranging in price from $10 to $20. This one was the lowest price.

Beautiful golden color. It offered citrus and lime on the nose and upfront. Crisp acidity and notes of toasted honey (neither oaky nor sweet) across the palate, and a nice finish. Matched it with store roasted chicken, which may have been a mistake. I enjoyed it well enough, but Mother said she wished the wine was sweeter. Having a hard time picking the right riesling for her; it's always either too dry or too sweet.

At any rate I like this one, and good thing as we have a couple more bottles. May have to serve them with fish.

Had another bottle over the last two nights with a take out fried chicken basket that, because of its bulk, also lasted two nights. Both went well together, and didn't mind having both twice. The Reilly's is drinking very nice.
