We will be visiting the Hunter Valley wine area in January 2001. Our hotel will be in Manly Beach.
We would appreciate recommendations regarding day or overnight tours to the area, best wineries to visit, good restaurants and favorite wines tasted in the area.
Thanks in advance for any help.

My, my. Weather's cooling off down there, and so the timing is good. Might be able to try some brand new 2000s! Then, of course, you should give us a report.

My opinion? No visit there is complete without a visit to Rosemount Estate. Write to them (Rosemount Rd., Denman, NSW 2328) or call (02-6549-6400) or fax (02-6549-6499) for info on how to get there. Visiting facilities are quite complete; and of course, the wines are world class.

More of a mix of both traditional and ultra-modern is Lindemans. Address is McDonalds Rd., Pokolbin, NSW 2320. Phone is 02-4998-7684; fax 02-4998-7682. They are also very welcoming.

The third dominant winery in the Hunter (in terms of sheer quality) is Tyrrell's. Address is Broke Rd., Pokolbin, NSW 2321. Phone is 02-4993-7000; fax is 02-4998-7723.

For great dining ("Hunter Valley Cuisine"), go to Casuarina. I've misplaced the number, but your hotel will be able to find it for you.

That will be five cents, please.
