Deep red in color with purple flashes. Decanted 30 minutes.

Very smoky nose that may be interesting to some drinkers and off-putting to others. Anne liked it more than I did, which is interesting. A more masculine style of Pinot, with heavy black plum and cherry flavors, earth, a touch of bacon fat, and some prickly tannins that come on late. Finishes smoky, as well. If you prefer a more delicate, feminine PN, this one might not be for you. However, it is interesting and worth a look if you like a bit more funk (not in a bad way) in your PN. Alc. 13.5%. Paid $20 locally, and it seems to be pretty widely available in these parts.

Reviewed the '03 earlier, http://www.wines.com/ubb2/Forum14/HTML/000408.html, sounds like the '01 was a better vintage.
