Another vacation wine tasted during my two weeks of surf and sun.

1998 ADW "Alliance" Shiraz, 14+% alcohol,$22

This is a very different wine. Port like consistancy...very dark black ruby with notes of mint, cassis, black fruit. Very thick mouth feel with moderate oak and dark fruit flavors that finish long with more mint, which I think I could do without. If you enjoy mint/herbacious flavors, this is the wine for you. We pared it with New York strip steaks but it wasn't a good match....perhaps roast lamb?

Been frolicking in OC, or further north in Rehoboth?

If your description holds true with my palate, then I'd certainly try to match this wine with some roast lamb or maybe even some chops done on the barby.

They have a lot of them critters in Oz, that might explain the nature of the wine; produced to be drunk with the local critters.

Can you imagine that on Survivor II - the challenge is to catch, butcher and cook a wild, hairy lamb. The prize is a case of shiraz.
