Padthaway, Australia
winemaker: Sparky Marquis
I think I paid $35.
65% shiraz, 35% cabernet
14.5% alcohol by volume

Color: dark red-purple; glints of crimson red at edges
Nose: perfumed dark berries, huge wafting aroma; (some polished new leather?); light cedar
Taste: leesy, jammy ripened dark fruits including boysenberries, black grapes--
spices from the Syrah must have been overpowered by the fruit--didn't notice any spices (label describes as forest berries, mocha, chocolate, etc.--I like the forest berries descriptor but didn't really notice chocolate or mocha this time)
Color saturates end of cork and stains fingers.
Mouth-coating texture (which is one of Sparky's goals in winemaking).
In comparison to the 2001 Henry's Drive Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (same winemaker), the Henry's Drive seems almost light-bodied in comparison. Yet they were the same alcohol by volume. I prefer the Henry's Drive but both were impressive. Had this with beef stew and cheddar cheese but agree with Drew (I think it was Drew) that some of these Ozzie wines overpower most food. The beef stew included.

Sounds delicious WOW, most of my over the top Aussies I drink alone when I'm in the mood for one, or with a little stilton.
