A cali wine that was not an oak bomb. As a matter of fact, when I first sipped it I thought "a real fruit bomb".

IK said something about it being able to remove several layers of enamel from the teeth. Well, I guess our palates are different (as they should be) or maybe mine has been destroyed just as many say WW's.......... has been.

Bright ruby red, the clarity of a diamond (I could read through it), lots of up front fruit with lots of body from the alcohol - but it was not "hot". Just a small bit of astringency, with a nice long finish with a hint of spice and what I thought of as lead pencil. The fruit had me guessing - I knew it was there, plenty of it, but plums?, currants?, cherries?, a hint of something but I couldn't quite catch it; I thought a slight hint of citrus but hesitate to say it........

Great just to hold this one for a while in the mouth before swallowing, just to get the fruit and the acid and the body working together. I guess I could say a balanced wine.

Anyway, I am glad that I had it and would really enjoy tasting it again......... Now if I can just find some around this barren land in which I live.

www.wine.com , And no I didn't say it about this one. Said it had a little more spunk than some of the super smooth ones.

Sorry, IK, but on 07/04/2000 you said:

<<Up in Ukiah, Monte Volpe makes a tooth enamel remover. >>

And therefore, I paraphrased your statement in my comments above. I don't think I took this "out of context".

The posting on 07/04/2000 was the result of reseach done for RAD, and was quoting or paraphrasing PR found on the various California Barberas. On 08/31/2000 (Barbera Update) we posted the TNs on those we actually bought and tasted. There you can find the following: "For one with a little more edge, try 1996 Monte Volpe, California, Barbera............"

That said, let's agree that the Monte Volpe is a very, very nice wine. As a matter think we'll uncork one with some fancy burgers tonight.

Oh, okay. Not to worry, I confuse easily anyway.............. I aplogize for any misunderstanding!!

Since I shouldn't drink a whole bottle in one sitting, I have been trying out the vac-u-vin system. It seems to work okay for an overnight storage. I have not tried it for longer than that.

The barbara was an exception (I cheated) and it was consumed in one evening.

I am now sipping on a 1997 Rosemount GSM and it, in its own way, is also really very good.

As soon as I can, I'll be logging onto www.wine.com to purchase more of the Monte Volpe Barbara!!

Thought about the MV all day today. Got out a pound of ground sirloin this morning. Then found farm fresh Brussels sprouts at the farmers' market at noon. Got home and mixed up the meat with grated onion, chopped walnuts, minced garden herbs, egg, wine, olive oil & garlic (Foodie), and seasonings including some ground caraway seed. Grillpanned it. Pressure cooked the sprouts and doused them with butter, and had all with the barbera. Wonderful.

How will you ever allow me to reduce my waist size????????

You are so un-kind. Stop describing your meals with your wine. Just tell me about the wine..........

I am basking in legumes and green veggies with no meat. (But I do cheat once a week, or so.) I've lost 34 lbs since this past winter and am now down to a respectable 216 on my way to the desired 190.

However, MY DAMN PANTS DON'T STAY UP ANYMORE!! (Which is something you probably don't need to know about.)

- Drew - 10-28-2000

Hey Mike....ain't it funny about marriage and life? When you first get married, your pants never seem to stay up and then years later, after some life improving regime, they don't stay up again......both for different reasons!

I never thought of it that way Drew, but I must admit that in a scary sort of way your right!

I prefer the younger (recently-married) version of the pantsless problem, as opposed to the older (middle-aged) version. It was a whole lot more fun.
