I have a real soft spot for a glass or two of icy Prosecco on a warm day and recently picked up a bottle of Prosecco dei Valdobbiadene from the Mionetto label. The only problem is . . . the cork is the strangest I've ever seen. It isn't the standard sparkling topper, nor is it similar to a still wine cork. It's flared much like a standard sparkling cork, but without the "knob" on top. In addition, there's a little "tab/button" on top which appears to serve no useful purpose whatsover. I'm rather afraid to use a corkscrew on this thing given the pressure, and my trusty Ah-So can't handle the flange.

Has anyone seen this type of cork? Any ideas as to getting the thing off without putting out an eye or two?

Go ahead, use a corkscrew, the pressure is less than half of a bottle of Champagne and it is designed for a corkscres. Prosecco is indeed a wonderful thing......
