I have no idea what the grape(s)is,are in this bottling but what a verrrrrry nice wine. Crushed berry, plum and leather and a smidge of mocha and a finish so long for a $10 bottle that you need several tape measures to "measure" the finish. Very impressive for the bucks. 13.5%Alc/vol.

Found an Italian Website on the DOC at http://www.ascomgr.it/turiserv/tipic/morellin.htm
Somebody who speaks Italian can confirm.... but it looks like it has a minimum 85% Sangiovese, with Merlot, Cab, and a few others permitted in the remainder.

Very nice wine. We carry Erik Banti's version for $9. His has 85% Sangiovese, 15% Cab Sau.

... Ciliegiolo, l’Alicante, il Colorino, il Merlot, il Cabernet and others

...but the primary grape for Morellino should be the local (Scansano) sangiovese clone.

This wine was very impressive for it's savory flavors, long finish, and is very elegant and balanced. Me thinks this may be a case buy....(even though I've decimated my wine budget recently!).

2000 Baroncini, Le Mandorlae, Morellino Di Scansano ($13 Is-Wine). Very, very rich version of this clone of sangiovese. Deep garnet color, and blast of black fruit captivate your nose and tongue tip, leading you into a never never land. Simply wonderful. Matched spledidly with tonight's Bistecca All Pizzaiola (with the cheese added to the Polenta): http://www.wines.com/ubb2/Forum13/HTML/000154.html

Had the second half of the Pizzaila and Polenta last night with the second and last bottle of the Morllino. Sad, but wonderful. Will have to get more.
