- TheEngineer - 11-25-2005 I had a bottle of 1997 Giacomo Conterno Monfortino Barolo Reserva in my hand and this, a bottle of 2000 La Loggia Barolo....and wondered........ BTW, I'm coming to y'all wireless from my new "cellar" which I cobbled together finally..... Got my modern glass toped table with an LCD screen, an modern furniture to go with Brasilian wood, ikea steel, home depot plastic, and a disposed of company show booth that is serving its second life as my bar........still it's my space and I'm liking it. Anyways, Just not the night for a pricy Italian......so I went with the latter.....which was a great choice after an evening of Thanksgiving leftovers.... Light opaque garnet in color, on first pour it was tannic, structured and austere. Lost of old wood and very little fruit...which I was fine with....then I let it air out. After a couple of hours, I went back to it and it had gained some weight and a nice Red fruit/cherry personality to go with the wood/tannin/acid structure (which is definitely all there). I did not expect much from this $13.99 bottle of Barolo from Trader Joes. It ended up begin a decent drink..nothing refined mind you but decent...should've picked up a few more....could've been the go to Italian red while the 99 and 2000 Barolos sleep for a bit.
