Hi,

I'm going to a gathering where everyone is bringing a red wine from somewhere around the Mediterranean. I'd like to take something from Greece, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks...Kate

Recommend a Boutari Santorini Red or White.

Thank you Innkeeper. Because you suggest this wine, I'm thinking you know it is available here in Maine. Do you know if products from the Pape Johannou Vineyards are available here?

I'll second Innkeeper's Boutari recommendation and suggest yet another one from them that I've enjoyed recently: Naoussa Xinaomavro (approx. $11 -- I've found it here in Atlanta without much problem, but don't know about Maine -- guess it's another to look for).

The best Greek wine I've had in the last few months was the Megas Oenos Cabernet-St. George blend from Skouras (about $17, and a Wine & Spirits 92 rating, for what that's worth).

Sounds like a fun theme! Enjoy!

You should try Miranda's Vineyard at the Portland Public Market. Look for Holly Miranda and ask. It is impossible to find anything there without asking.

Thanks Innkeeper. I just received that same info from Nick Cobb whom I met at the Boston Wine Expo. He works at greekwinemakers.com, this is a most helpful site.

I can't believe I never responded here about the tasting results and what I took with me.

I ended up taking Palivou Nemea 1998 which is produced of the Appellation Agiorgitiko (Staint George) grape, which is the oldest Greek variety.

At the tasting we had reds from all over the Med including the Boutari, this Palivou Nemea was hands down the winner! It is lovely! I'd serve it with anything that you'd have a Merlot with.
