I've received as a gift a bottle of 1995 IL NAPPO, Colli Orientali del Friuli, SCHIOPPETTINO. Thank you in advance for information on this wine.

Schioppettino means "buckshot" in Italian, so named due to its explosive flavor. A friend of mine calls them "formula one Zinfandel". I don't know the producer you named (check the label for more info like "Azienda Agricola" or "Cantina" with a name after it) but you should be drinking that soon with some nice spicy grilled sausage and onions with paprika on top.

Botafogo, i checked the bottle of IL NAPPO scioppettino as you've advised. The other markings are...Colli Orientali del Friuli, Denominazione di Origine Controllata, Spessa di Cividale del Friuli...these are on the front label. The Azienda is , AGRICOLA COLLIS.ANNA s.n.c., DI FAVARO LUIGI & C. SPESSA DI CIVIDALE.- I - ITALIA.
It was a 1995 vintage and went well with beef and a caesar salad. Thanks for the advise. Gary.

I could be wrong, but that seems like a local wine (the village of Cividale, which is my all-time favorite spot in the region). I think I had that wine at a restaurant there three years ago; the proprietor makes the wine and sells it locally. But again, I could be wrong, although I have never seen that wine in the US.

Is the label in Italian? Does it include the federally ridiculous GOVERNMENT WARNING?

no government warning, although, the bottle does have a bar code image...and the front label has a raised image of a vintner lugging a basket of grapes on his back. it is a local wine, this bottle was given to me by one of my former comrades in arms...i'm retired air force. gar.

No Government Warning means the wine is not sold in the puritanical, nonsensical US of A!

I am amazed that my memory brought the wine back into focus after a three-year hiatus from Cividale; but I shall return to visit that marvelous village this April.

I suppose you liked the wine?

that's right, it was hand carried back by a member of the USAF. The wine was as you'd described...flavorful. Another great wine from that region is PICOLIT. Let's face it, it's hard to get a bad bottle of wine from that area.
