Trekked over to a close friend's house yesterday afternoon armed with the above bottle, as well as others, a huge enameled Dutch oven with 50+ home made meat balls in mushroom tomato gravy and packages of Garganelli, (an egg penne-style pasta). This Aglianico was delicious and paired beautifully with the pasta dish. Smooth and round in the mouth, the wine opened over the course of the meal, 7 of us total, but only 3 drinking this wine. Cherry and plum flavors, a touch of herb and a hint of hazelnut. Clean and fresh it hit the spot with the simple meal. My fried Jeff kept raving over the pairing and two of us had to fight him for fair shares. Terrific food wine. 13.5% Alc/vol. $17 but I think you can find it cheaper.
