2001 Tomassi-Viticoltori, Rafael, Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Vigneto ($14 Blue Hill Wine Shop). Alcohol level 12.5%. This is one of those VCS's that is not a Ripasso, although it almost tastes like one. I think it is because they make it with some dried or very over ripe grapes, but not enough to raise the alcohol level. It gives a ton of black fruit on the nose and upfront. Very complex in the middle and it finishes nicely. Only regret is we popped it too soon. It was slightly overwound. Would hang onto it for another year or two if you happen to have one.

Matched well with pasta in tomato sauce, sausages, and salad.
