I just bought a bottle labeled "Chianti Superiore" (Ruffino 2000 Il Leo) and designated as such on the pink label attached to all DOCG wines.

I'm familiar with the basic Chianti classifications including Classico, Riserva, etc., but haven't come across a "Superiore" before. Does anyone know what this signifies?

Thanks.

Superiore should refer mainly to alchol content...
minimum 12% vol. (for Chianti is 11.5%)

(Anyway other differences are:
max yeld 75 q./ha for Superiore against 90 q./ha for basic
...and obviously minimum grapes alchol level 11% Superiore against 10.5% basic)

Sorry for my bad English in technical wine datas !

Ciao Fabio

The English may be suspect but the advice is Right On Fabs. Good seeing you on this thread. Only way I know we can keep Roberto and Thomas in line. WW
