The "War Criminal" thread provided a segue too good to pass up, as this wine is a blend of cabernet sauvignon and gaglioppo, a grape from Calabria (the "toe" of southern Italy's boot). Gaglioppo is believed to have first come to Italy from Greece.

On to the wine: intense purple color; aromas of chocolate and berries continue on the palate, mixing with cocoa and black cherry and a tart, lingering acidity and drying tannins. Wine continues to evolve even after a couple of hours; believe it's still young.

I bought the wine at Vino in NYC, the new Italian wine shop recently opened by the owners of I Trulli, at whose Enoteca I Trulli I had the pleasure of meeting Scoop, IK, and Foodie the other night, along with IK and Foodie's significant others. Vino is now fully stocked (it was a bit threadbare when I first visited it), and has a very large Italian selection, especially from southern Italy.
