Tonight I attended huge charity event where lots of restaurants and liquor distributors donate their products. It's one of those fun things where one samples all kinds of food and drink, spends a lot of money on raffles and helps a good cause. One of the distributors there was Vias Imports Ltd. out of NYC. I had a nice chat with the wine consultant and for the first time in my life I felt I could ask some halfway intelligent questions about the Italian wines he specializes in. We spoke about my beloved Taurino Salice Salentino. He said that when the father of the current owner had the winery the wine was better than it is now. He said that there is another maker who, in his opinion, is doing a better job. Unfortunately, with the volume of the music in the tent, I missed the name of who it was and wonder if anyone knows who it might be. I sampled a Chianti Classico that I thought was delicious--Castello di Meleto. I don't know much about Chianti and I know there have been lengthy posts on the subject. I have to say that this was quite nice, better than another I had tasted a few months back. I don't see any posts on this wine, and wonder if any of you have tasted it.
