200 Soletta, Vermentino di Sardegna ($8.99 Wine Expo). A terrific value. First impression is the floral aroma wafting up from the glass. Then the eye settles on the lovely straw color with hints of green. Getting down to business the flavor of blossoms moves to the tongue tip, more complexity, including apples, cross the palate, and the finish lingers as long as you'll find in a white. Matched it with a variation of the Italian chicken breasts in cream sauce; this time adding toasted sliced almonds instead of the mushrooms. Wonderful.
Will be getting more soon.

Last night we had a house guest of Italian decent, moderately knowledgable about wine. Served Turkey Tetrazzini (see post "Comfort Food" on Food & Wine Affinites from 12/01/01), and salad. The Soletta Vermentino was a huge hit. Despite the producer's suggestion to serve with light fare, it held up splendidly with the complex dish. When you need a workhorse Italian White, Vermentino is the route to go, and the Soletta is a fine example.

The Vermentino is from what grape/grapes?

- Innkeeper - 12-06-2002

It is a varietal name.
