2006 Masciarelli, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo ($8.99 NH Liq Store). Alcohol level: 12%. It was not too many years ago that we wouldn’t even think of buying a medium-light Italian white unless it has just gotten off the boat. Times have really changed.

The wine gives you deep floral and fruity aromas on the nose, and commensurate flavors upfront. More fruit including apricots and apples is in the complexity in the middle. It finishes very nicely bring on thoughts of the beautiful Abruzzo hills.

We matched it with Mac & (white) Cheese, making for a very nice Friday night.

Another bottle over two nights with boneless chicken thighs cooked in a slowpot sauce. This wine is a winner. Must get more.

Thanks, glad to know it was once known as "a soldier's wine." For 26 years I were one.

We popped an '08 with dinner last night. This is certainly one of those you can count on year after year. Delicious.

Matched it with haddock, rice, and green beans. Mmmmmm.
