2005 Acorn, Alegria Vineyards, Sangiovese, Russian River Valley (gift but $26 retail). Alcohol level: 13.5%. It has a splash each of Canaiolo and Mammolo (whatever they are) in with 98% Sangiovese.

It gives you ripe red fruit on the nose and upfront. Plums, cherries, brambly spice, crisp acidity, and mild oak course the palate, and it finishes delightfully.

Matched it with our own special lasagna and sliced pink Brandywine tomatoes.

KC had me really wanting to visit this winery, but we just couldn't squeeze it in during our August trip -- to many appointments, too little time. So, it's on the agenda for the next time. This sounds nice, and from my experience, it isn't too easy to find a good domestic Sangio.

On another topic, from the looks of your recent posts, you seem to have had a nice year for Brandywines. We had bumper crops of multiple heirloom varieties all summer, but then our tomatoes seemed to shut down in August, when we had brutal heat for an extended period. SInce then, they looked to try and start back up, with some flowering and some new fruit, but now everything looks to have closed down again. Guess we'll be enjoying some fried green tomatoes.

We have sixteen of them in the fridge right now, with ten more in the ripening basket. There are maybe 20 more still on the vines, which at this point are still going strong. We will be away two nights, and frost is expected, so we will see.
