From Antinori, a super-Tuscan of 80% Sangiovese and 20% CS. Holy smokes! Big wine! Decanted for three hours but not long enough. Inky black in the glass, sweet oak and red fruit on the nose, lots more of both on the palate, lip-smacking, nice long finish. Probably ageable for decades if anyone has that kind of life-expectancy or patience (I have neither). With Italian meatballs and pasta. About $56 and 13.5% alc/vol. Will need to sneak a few of these into the budget over time, maybe work up to a case when she's not lookin'..... although she loved it too.

Yup, I see those notes going back a few WW. Glad to see there's been no change in this dude's string of winners.

I've been liking the Morellino di Scansanos we've been getting in lately. Pretty much the same blend as the Tignanello, but at a quarter of the price. Admittedly, they're not in the same lofty league as the Tignanello but they're some really nice wines.

Used to love the Morellino di Scansanos we got from Foodie's old shop in NY. Maybe we should try some of yours.

It'll take a trip down here, IK. We don't ship.

- hotwine - 10-11-2007

A quarter pf the price?! I could sure go for that!

- TheEngineer - 10-11-2007

hotwine, where are you sourcing your Tig for $56? might be worth the trip to Texas at that price...

The biggest wine shop in the country, Eng.... Costco.

- TheEngineer - 10-11-2007

.............ahhhh....... Gotta get into one of those one day......

- hotwine - 10-12-2007

Eng, just checked specsonline.com (Spec's is a huge retailer in Houston), and they also have it for $56 and change.... and they ship (although don't know about MA's law on receiving wine shipments from out of state).
