I have a Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale 1974. I've kept it lying down,in a dark place. How do I know if this wine is still good to drink? Is it a collectors item?

May still be drinkable, but it is pretty old for a lower end wine. No collector's value.

Bucko failed to respond to your question of drinkability with the obvious answer: open it.

Uh....Bucko, I think everything they make is overpriced due to their high overhead and advertizing but that is the Top of the Line Riserva from Ruffino and 1974 was a reasonably good vintage in Chianti. I think it should be fine if properly cellared.

I'm a little late to this party, but my money is on Roberto- I've still got some 74' Chianti Riserva's that are holing up well. The last one I opened earlier this year was a Fossi, and it was phenomenal! Enjoy it!
