I bought this today on a whim. It has a long statement in Italian on the label that I'm hoping one of you out there (foodie? Roberto?) might be able to translate for me. Here's what it says: "I filari di una vigna folta sono schiertiverdi o rossicci o gialli-come le onde di un mare, e contengono a gorghi la ricchezza di un mare. Frescura, stupore, tesori celati." As near as I can figure it says something like "If Georgie drinks this while riding a horse she'll become stupified." Am I close?

Dear Georgie. Firdt let me confess all of the Italian I've learned was from the labels on Mama Rosas canned maranara sauce but I think the literal translation is something like,,," I find one vial of this foul potion causes schitzophrenia in rats and reults in giggling likr a mare in spring, or with cognoizant use you will riccochet off'n the mare like the contemporary woman Georgie does after 4 glasses of port before falling into a stupor." May have maiised a few literary catch=phrases, but thas' the jist. WW

Well, here's what we got after running that phrase through the accurate-as-hell Babelfish Translator...

"The filari of a vine folta are schiertiverdi or rossicci or yellow-as the waves of a sea, and contain to gorghi the wealth of a sea. Frescura, astonishment, treasures hide to you ."

Interpret that however you want...

That is THICK Piemontese Dialect and probably has at least three meanings depending on how you say it.... I will get local counsel later this week.

Roberto

Grazie, Roberto!

Yeah Roberto that is it. I think Skeeter comes close to a literal translation.

The sentiment seems to be that the vines are fresh and earthly and so is the Barbera.

Skeeter's Babelfish "translation" made less sense than WW's! Anyway, I'll go along with earthy all right. Had this wine tonight with Mussels Marinara. It was a little too rough for me at this point. I like a fruitier taste. Thank you for your input.

I don't know if You are joking or You are really interested in the translation...

anyway it is "poetic" italian...

Exuberant vineyard can be green(ish), red(dish) or yellow like the waves of the sea, and they did contain the richness of the sea. Freshness, surprise and hidden treasures."

Grazie Fabio! I was seriously interested in the translation as much as I enjoyed the funny attempts. I'm sure the others will be interested also. Hope all is well in beautiful Italy! Ciao!

That's prezactly what I meant to say. Thanks Fabio. WW
