2002 La Nunsio, Ideale, Barbera d’Asti, Piemonte ($10.99 Wine Expo). Alcohol level: 13% or so. Nice tart plums and cherries on the nose and upfront. It gave soft tannin with pronounced acidity and modest oak in the middle, and a decent finish. Matched it with our lamb shanks in tomato sauce (cooked all day in slow pot with meat removed, cut in tiny pieces and returned to sauce) on linguini fini, and salad with raspberry/hazelnut dressing. The wine went fine with all, but did better with the salad than the pasta because of the extreme acidity. We have another bottle and will try in next time with a more acidic sauce. Don’t misunderstand, it was still a very nice Wednesday night pasta meal.

We had a bottle of this today as our first Thanksgiving Dinner wine. It matched up with everything fantasticly. Everybody loved it. Happy Thanksgiving.
