Can someone offer tasting notes on a Steele Caneros 1996 Pinot Noir?

I can not offer you any personal tasting notes but in September 1998 Wine Spectator gave it 87 points and said the following:

An earthy yet complex style, with mushroom, dried cherry and leather notes. Shows more funk and personality than the best Steeles from 1996, but it's a challenging bottle that's fun to drink, now through 2000. (5500 cases produced)

Hope this helps a little bit..........

Thanks Mrdutton, I hope their term "challenging" doesn't mean the wine will fight me over the prospect of being drunk!

You might have to pop a cork to find out.

Seriously, the technical definition of "challenging" in this instance is beyond me..........

In any case, enjoy the wine!
