This Volnay was from the Chateau Genot-Boulanger, bottled by Marie Delaby-
Genot. Purchased at a wine dinner from the importer, Country Vintner, Inc. of Richmond, Va. I didn't record the price but I think it was under $30. 13% alcohol
Pretty ruby color. Berries prominent on the nose. Another scent I couldn't quite pinpoint--possibly a slight woodsiness, but fruit definitely dominates. Fruit again on the palate--berries and plums. Tannins softening nicely--might be even better in 3-5 years. A very pleasant drink now. I would score it in the 88-90 range now with the possibility of scoring 92 or higher in a few years.
We ate this with broiled sirloin steak and sauce (I intend to buy a grill pan after seeing IK's notes but haven't done so yet).
Side dishes were a party version of mashed potatoes and stewed green beans with tomatoes and onion. The green bean dish would probably go well with an Italian red also and I may try that combination next time.
